How durable are fibreglass climbing holds compared to other materials?

Chompers fibreglass macros are built for high-impact, high-intensity use and are significantly more durable than most alternatives at large scale.

The durability comes from the layered construction (six layers of fibreglass forming a 4–5mm shell) combined with the use of pure resin without fillers. This creates a stronger, more consistent structure that resists cracking, delamination, and long-term fatigue. See more about materials at climbing hold manufacturing materials

We specifically design against the main failure modes seen in macros: structural cracking, surface breakdown, and fixing point failure. We have done this by reinforcing bolt zones and integrating metal inserts which help prevent issues under repeated loading.

In terms of lifespan, the shell itself is expected to last around 10 years under commercial use, while the texture typically maintains performance for around 5 years depending on usage.

Compared to lower-quality fibreglass holds that use fillers or inconsistent layups, the difference is noticeable over time; especially in high-traffic gyms.
